If seeing you didn’t make it difficult I would say to your face:
The past is just fine where it is. Let’s not open old wounds and try to build something new on a wobbly foundation.
I would say: Maybe you cared for me a long time ago but you have never been very good at demonstrating that love so I think that you should move forward with your life and let me do the same thing.
I would tell you: that I don’t want anyone to get hurt but I know that sometimes pain comes along with the risk you need to take to find true love. Unfortunately for the both of us our journey has not ended with each other as the love of our lives. We will be better and happier when we are with others who bring out the best in us.
I need to tell you all of this.
