Burning

The night is sliced in half
Clouds of smoke languish into thin swirls
disguising the whole world except your face
I just want your face, I need your face
Light seeps through the toxic billows
Highlighting the deep creases where smiles had been
Smiles I loved
then and again they waft
through doors and I steal pieces away in my mind
Nothing is you
I remember how much  I couldn’t live without your face
Your cigarette dangles fire and cancer and danger and
Close to death as me and we are friends with it
Everytime you whisper it
Shadows walk among us
But never in between
No one is you
Even the burning ash lingers and murders and chars
The whole world except your face
In the bar, in the holes, in the dark places
Out at night in the caves in the streets
I search through the smoke
Singling out neon rays of light
For your face
For your smile
For the me I am when I am
with you…
