I noticed the bird flying around my garden
singing ever so sweetly about how nice it was to be free
I knew as soon as I saw him that he belonged to me
I loved him so much I cut a board into 7 pieces just for him
I drilled holes for assembly and applied sturdy wood glue
I loved him so much when the floor and sides dried
I attached the screws and the roof
And I waited for the bird to fly into the house styled trap
That I attached to the sturdiest limb in the yard
In a way I assumed he’d never want to stay
he was the most beautiful that way but one day
I loved him so much that I painted the house sky blue
And filled it with bird seed and water too
I knew as soon as I saw him that he belonged to me
And he just kept flying around my garden completely free
unwilling to settle down in my bird house indefinitely
and yet after waiting for 2 years post build he moved in
feeling safe enough to become a domesticated pet wren
singing ever so sweetly about how he finally belonged to me
And since I loved him so much I burned down the tree.
