To all my soon to be little sisters out there
Ready and willing and wondering and waiting and close and almost
From your big sister let me tell you with love that nothing is what it appears to be from the outside.
As long as you know in your heart what you want to be and who you really are, don’t let anything get in the way of that.
Prepare yourself for the lows, sweetest of hearts because its not all fun and games.
People aren’t going to like it when you change
Hey little sister on the inside remember this-
It is quite dangerous to be female anywhere in the world, has been since people starting writing things down and deciding the reason life is so difficult is because a character in an old story
a soft one, a plump one, a female one, like us
fucked everything up.
Men of all races and ages think they own us, that they can beat and enslave us, rape us or hurt us whenever they feel like it so be very careful, doll.
People aren’t going to like it if you stay the same either.
They pay us less, ignore us when we have the answers and for brown girls it can be more challenging just to be.
And its not just men who dole out the pain and anguish we’ve learned to do it to one another.
They say we are ugly when we are old and we agree and do all sorts of things to look as pretty as we did when we were new to the earth…. they think we are nothing if we are not mothers, and we agree, berating ourselves into our own futures because we haven’t carried any children anywhere…it goes on and on.
To a lot of men, unfortunately, unless you are young and drop dead gorgeous you are invisible.
It goes on and on…
To a lot of women you are nothing but competition butterfly in a race no one ever wins.
But since I have your ear, have nothing to fear, my cautions are what every big sister should let her little sister know before she ventures out into the world alone…
Nobody owns you, but you, baby girl to be.
People won’t like it no matter what.
And nothing is perfect, regardless of the skin you are in, the genitalia you have or the country you hail from.
I’ve unlearned and learned and unlearned so much and you will too.
All you can do is be good to you.
Butterfly, you don’t need to be like me, sweetie, thank you for listening,
I know you’re ready and willing and wondering and waiting and close and almost
From your big sister let me tell you with love that nothing is what it appears to be from the outside.
Be the best woman you can be every day inwardly immediately… and outwardly eventually.
